NEWS FROM JINNAH UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN

KARACHI –Jinnah University for Women, Pakistan First Women’s University Convocation 2010-11 will be held on 3rd week of April 2011. No. of students, who excelled in various disciplines, were awarded gold medals.
In his speech, the university's vice Chancellor he said that JUW’s mission is to work for the betterment of the country and its people and to contribute towards earning a prominent place for Pakistan in the comity of nations.
He pointed out that JUW was established with the objective to produce highly qualified personnel to help meet the country's requirements, adding that the university has become an institute of excellence.
"Science and technology holds the key to economic growth and social development”, he said, adding that it is necessary to prepare a population that is not only knowledgeable and skilled but it is also aware of its responsibilities and is also willing to contribute to the growth of the nation as well as the well-being of the society.

SPACE AND FUTURE FOR NOVITIATE JOURNALISTS


A seminar on citizen journalism held at Jinnah University for women in which the chief guest was Owais Mangalwala. In seminar he shared his experiences of his university life. He talked about citizen journalism. He gave some examples for our convenience. He added why do they prefer citizen journalist and citizen journalism?? Journalist is powerful but manipulated, journalist is like a sovereign.
Then asked to the students that what is exactly citizen journalism??He said people think anybody who wears shoes and clothes of the journalists, is not a journalist. Journalist must have the ability to see the world.
“When people who are the audience who communicate with each other. It is not necessary that their medium or source must be media.
While addressing to the students he mention the four types of citizen journalism:

Ø Sharing of experience.
Ø  Sharing of opinion.
Ø  Sharing of discovery.
Ø  Sharing of expertise.
He said that you have power when you have power to convey people, to express your thoughts. He also gave knowledge about democracy he told the difference of new and noise. He also asked some questions to students that why students prefer citizen journalism.
Those issues that does not support by media, media does not highlight the +ve points, then it will also cover by citizen journalists
They also told student that students can also send the citizen journalists reports. He also shared key points with the student:
·        The necessity
·        Anything you see should be real, don’t add anything by yourself.
·        Being a thorough reporter. Don’t wait for the big events, report on general event e.g.  Your seminar.
·        Write your own point of view, expressive in your own terms, give your opinions.
·        Don’t ever think that your topic is boring; just share it, each and everything, present it is an expressive manner.
·        Be descriptive but don’t exaggerate.
·        Always think about the reader.
·         Accuracy is the key, you have to depth accurate. Make sure about your facts and figures.
·        Try to visit website for reporting.
·        Think about criticism.
·        Keep in mind that everyone can be a reporter. He added
